Chapter 21: Ritual: Space and Intention!

0

Hi again, Autumn Artists!

Believe it or not, we are reaching the most exciting part of our Retreat – we will work on your personal, meaningful piece of art! We will combine all our knowledge, skills and intentions to make a one-of-a-kind project channelling all your intentions, dreams and hopes… and this will happen in an organic, intuitive and relaxed way!

I can’t wait to start, but first, let’s prepare ourselves both outside and inside!

As we mentioned before, the space we are in strongly impacts our mood, feeling and performance. By making the area more inviting, cosy and organised, we can boost our creativity and help our energy and mojo flow!

I’d like you to think about making a simple “set-up ritual” before starting any new project, especially when you plan to work with your intuition and follow your creative voice, creating a work of art filled with emotions and personal stories. This concept works really well as a set-up for more complicated and technically advanced projects. A few simple steps will not only put your mind at ease and help you focus on your creative process but will make your work easier and help you work without breaking the flow too much!

How to start? With a simple cleanup and setting up the “stage”!

Ritual: Space and Intention!

So, how to feel ready, inspired and full of energy?

How to focus on the project instead of mindlessly looking for the necessary supplies?

Here are the simple tips:

Tip 1:

Tidy up our creative space – enough to work comfortably and not get overwhelmed or tied up with cleaning or sorting. Focus on the most critical surfaces around you to ensure you have enough space to work on your project, all your supplies are ready and on hand, and you have all the tools you need.

Cleaning, organising and decorating can instantly change the perception of the surroundings and help you a lot with calling inspiration in!

How? Here are some simple steps – you should know them by now!
  • Start with a timer – give yourself a reasonable time to prepare your table.
Thirty minutes should be more than enough; we don’t want you to get stuck sorting and admiring your art supplies now!
  • Look around your creative zone and check – what does not feel right now?
Which parts/elements are bothering you and asking for your attention?
Follow your instinct and give them your time and love: get your paints organised, brushes cleaned, water changed, and table wiped.
  • Check the functionality of your space.
Ensure space in your bin, and get some wipes or wet clothes. Bring the box with the supplies somewhere close, and make sure you’ve got easy access to the coloured mediums and tools you use the most. Maybe a bowl with water for washing the stencils is a good idea? How about taking out your favourite set of pencils or inks?

Trust your guts, and listen to your intuition until you know you are all done and ready!

Once your space looks tidy and inviting enough, I invite you to check what you need for our Art Date later today! Maybe there are some art supplies you need to add?

Tip 2:

Take care of the reference material, mood and aesthetics

  • add details that match the theme or look of the artwork you plan to work on.
Pick the ones that make you feel happy, relaxed or inspired and ensure they won’t get painted or damaged during your creative session. Working on this step can help so much in invoking the right mood and put you right away on the creative path!
Here are some ideas:
  • make sure you can see any reference material you use – colour palette inspiration, a project you admire, flowers from your garden or a beautiful jar of shiny beads – you name it! They may be both just inspirational pieces or the elements you want to physically include in your art – just make sure they are clearly visible and easy to reach!
I love having the elements I plan to use in my compositions sorted and displayed in little boxes, baskets or on the trays – it is so much easier for me to pick the right ones, and the ideas flow.
  • work with your senses: turn on nice background music matching the vibe of your planned artwork, add beautifully smelling candles, and bring your favourite drinks or snacks. Make sure the temperature is right, and you feel comfortable! It is your Art Date, so make it a nice one!

Tip 3:

Work on Your Intention

  • give yourself a short moment for relaxation or meditation before you start.
This step is one of the most valuable lessons I’ve learned over the years of creativity: a brief moment when you pause, go still and let your mind slow down while connecting with your body and your inner voice is the best beginning for any art session, especially when you plan to work with your intuition.

You can use this time to invoke the intention of your project – the story you’d like to tell, the mood you’d like to bring to life or to discover the key point of your future piece.
While in relaxation, you can connect with your inner, creative voice and take inspiration directly from the depths of your creative soul. It is much easier than you think!

Try this short relaxation I recorded for you!

Once you know your intention and your space is ready, we can start our Art Date and invoke all the goodness and abundance into our creative life!
